Brockley sits in a part of South East London that looks leafy and manageable from the street but presents real challenges once you're working in the gardens. The combination of conservation area constraints, steep terrain, clay soil, and tight access makes it one of the more demanding patches we cover.
Upper Brockley and the streets climbing away from Brockley Cross have some of the steepest residential gardens in SE London. Slopes accelerate water runoff, cause soil erosion over time, and make lawn maintenance harder. At the base of slopes, water pools. Clay soil underneath makes this worse - it doesn't absorb quickly, so you get waterlogged patches in winter and cracked, compacted ground in summer.
