Question 1

How much does leaf clearance cost in South East London?

Accepted Answer

We clear leaves under garden maintenance at £83 for the first hour and £65 for every hour after, with a two-person team, tools and green waste disposal included. Most small terraced gardens in SE London are a one or two hour job.

Question 2

How long does it take to clear leaves from a small London garden?

Accepted Answer

One hour for a small back lawn cleared within a week of the leaves falling. Two hours if the patio, path and borders are covered too. Three or four if it has been left since mid-October and matted into the grass.

Question 3

Do you take the leaves away, or leave them bagged?

Accepted Answer

They go in the van. Green waste disposal is part of a maintenance visit, so you pay nothing extra and no pile is left by your gate. If you would rather keep them for leafmould, we will stack them in the corner you choose.

Question 4

Can you clear leaves when the grass is soaking wet?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and most of November is wet anyway. Wet leaves take longer because the rake does the work instead of the blower, so a soaking garden can run an hour over a dry one. We keep barrows off soft clay so we are not leaving ruts across your lawn.

Question 5

Do I need one leaf clearance in November or two?

Accepted Answer

One if you have a single tree or you are only catching blow-in from the street. Two, a fortnight apart, if two or more mature trees overhang the garden. A London plane behind the fence usually pushes the second visit into early December.

Question 6

Will you cut the grass on the same visit?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you ask when you book. We clear the leaves first and then cut, because mowing over a leaf layer just spreads it. On the same visit it is the same hourly rate.

Question 7

Who is responsible for leaves blown in from a neighbour's tree?

Accepted Answer

You are, once they land in your garden. There is no obligation on your neighbour to collect them and no right for you to return them. You may trim branches that cross the boundary, as long as the tree is not protected and you offer the cuttings back.

Question 8

Is it too late to clear leaves in December?

Accepted Answer

No, and it is still worth doing. The job takes longer because by December the layer is wet through and stuck to the grass, so expect an extra hour over a mid-November clear. It still saves you the bare patches in February.
